All About
Ella...
This
website is a combination of various images and artworks
I have produced over the past ten years. It contains
a mixture of commissions, paintings, glass and mosaic,
travel images, sketchbook work and various pieces which
I hold dear to my heart. They are not necessarily incredible
but helped me become the artist I am today.
Previous to completing a PGCE in Secondary Design &
Technology and beginning a career in teaching, I graduated
from the University of Surrey Roehampton in 2004, where
I received a 2:1 BA (Hons) Degree Certificate in 'Art
For Public Space'. The degree was designed to enable
artists to have a wider understanding of Public Art
and Site-Specific Art. I spent the second year of my
degree working in Mosaic and the third year in Stained
Glass. During the third year I was chosen to undertake
a commission for George Abbot School in Burpham, Guildford.
Since then I have been commissioned to produce a number
of stained glass windows and paintings for public sites
and private residences. Alongside glass and mosaic I
also enjoy working in a range of different mediums:
pencil, oil paint, watercolours, encaustic wax, textiles
and beadwork, most recently focusing on making jewellery
and dreamcatchers.
A huge amount of my enthusiasm for art comes from natural
forms and I find patterns within nature extremely interesting
and inspiring. I also have the "Itchy Feet Syndrome"
and want to go travelling constantly. So much of my
inspiration has come from the amazing places I have
been fortunate enough to visit on my travels, and I
hope to have the opportunity to travel whenever possible.
Much
of my inspiration also comes from books, music and other
artists. Among my favourite writers are Haruki Murakami
and John Steinbeck, aswell as fantasy writers such as
Anne Rice, Stephen King and J.V Jones. Artists whose
works make me stand in awe include Kandinsky, Richter,
Pollock, Brom, Brian Froud and Stephanie Pui-Mun Law.
Musically, I have a wide range of tastes depending on
what mood I am in. Anything from
Bruce Springsteen and Jeff Buckley to The Chili Peppers
and Radiohead, Holst to Tenacious D.
I
have to admit to spending endless amounts of time
watching classic A-Team episodes, Futurama and Thundercats.
Some things are just too hard to resist.
Those of you who have
discovered my weeny corner of the web and have any
comments to make, good or bad (I can handle constructive
criticism) or alternatively if you want to inquire
