The following
commission, completed in July 2006, was a collaboration
between myself and visionary metalworker Andy
Crook. The commission was for a private residence
in Plantation Wharf. The client requested a stained
glass installation for one of the central windows
in the residence and expressed an interest in
organic forms. This lead to a multitude of design
concepts, mainly focusing on the idea of overlapping
layers of glass.
Andy and I worked together to design and create
an installation which combines interesting features
of both metal and glass. The metal structure which
is attached to a central beam in the room has
been shaped and manipulated to give the impression
of a solid branch entwined with vines. The branch-like
structure castes away from the beam towards the
window, descending at the end to reveal glass
panels reminiscent of abstract leaves. The result
is a truly unique fusion of two exciting traditional
crafts.
